Why We Love Ann Taylor

Sunday was Nordstrom, Monday was JCrew and today is Ann Taylor. As you might guess, tomorrow will be a follow up with Ann Taylor Loft!

Let’s get started with one of our favorite work clothing lines, Ann Taylor.

1. Why we like their site: Like JCrew, Ann has easy navigation. As soon as you choose what you’re after (Blouses, Dresses, Wedding, Shoes, etc) you can then narrow it to only clothes in your size and in the perfect color. Special tip: when you first start, it only shows a few rows of outfits. For faster navigation, go all the way to the bottom, look to the right where the page numbers are located and choose “View All”. You can also do this toward the top right where the page numbers are also located.

2. Why we like their clothes: Quality and fit. It’s all about good quality fabrics and cuts, which make the clothes fit a cut above some of their compeitiors. Petite sizes are readily available in almost every single clothing item.

3. Special deals and sales: Great deals right now! Buy one get one 50% off plus free shipping on $150 or more. Plus, Ann always has a good sale section and you can take 50% off already reduced styles.

4. (The most fun) Two featured items

The crossfront sleeveless top is an online exclusive and ridiculously flattering. Goes with jeans or a multitude of skirt and pant options. Ann is an expert when it comes to pants, especially work and dress pants. Their “modern” fit is one of our favorites. It sits lower and slimmer than the “signature” fit but isn’t tight and doesn’t pull. Check them out in pinstripe.

The Business of Business Casual

What are the best business casual clothes? Or, potentially even more difficult, how do you dress for jeans day at work? And finally, where do you find all of the right clothes and the right outfits online?

As always, leave us your favorite clothing or outfits you’re not too sure about in the comments. You can also tweet us at @eStyleChat.

Let’s start from the bottom up. For the right jeans or casual pants, we started at JCrew online. Jeans for casual day at work should be a one-color dark wash. Business casual clothing should go up a notch to khakis. Try the JCrew classic flare (below) or the ridiculously flattering David Kahn jeans we featured in a post late last week. You can find the David Kahn’s at Nordstroms and read about them here.
Need something dressier for the bottoms? Try an A-line skirt with cute embellishments that are more casual than a pencil skirt. Banana’s button A-line is perfect for a tucked in top. One of the primary reasons employers have “Jeans Day” or business casual Friday is so you can be comfortable. Don’t thumb your nose at the gift and really wear clothes that are comfortable. Since JCrew has an extra 30% off of sale items with the code “SHOPNOW”, we thought we should take advantage and find something amazing and on sale. Take another 30% off the Maritime Blazer in Fatigue and you’ve got a deal.

Ann Taylor also has a sale right now: BOGO Half off on Full Priced Items. For business casual here are our two picks to take advantage of the sale! Autumn Stripe 3/4 sleeve with skinny jeans and flats. And for your item half off, the ribbed pull over. Notice how both of these outfits don’t require a lot of matching? You toss them on and go. That’s what it’s all about on casual day.  Notice the bracelet the model below is wearing? A very similar one was on our list of  favorite things last week but you can find that one here and take advantage of the buy one get one half off sale!

Style Tip #1: “S Butt” Chronicles

This is the first of what will be many style tips. At least once a week (often more!) our shopper Emily will post a style tip. Find them all by choosing “Style Tip” as your Category to the right.

Hi eStyle Chatters!

Thanks for reading the first style tip. It’s about the plague of S-butt. You know, it’s that look from the side where your pants are hugging your rear making it look like the letter S. Just in case you need an example…

Now just imagine if she wasn’t a size 0/2. “S-butt” is especially a problem with skirts that hit just above the knee because they tend to finish the S by curving slightly out behind your knees when they’re too tight.

Great news! It’s easy to avoid. Some skirts simply aren’t made for your behind. That’s why you just have to find a brand that is. This season’s pencil skirts and cropped tailored pants are no exception and can be really unflattering from a side angle.

Spicy Gold No. 2 Pencil Skirt from JCrew

One of my favorite pencil skirts is from JCrew and keeps me S-butt-free every time (above). Or, to skip pencil altogether, the A-line JCrew skirt (below right) works great with a flouncy shirt or something tailored and tucked in. (the dark navy is a great color with cream or greige)

Navy A-line JCrew Skirt

The Modern Fit pant from Ann Taylor is a great work look that gives a little tuck under your tush without a noticeable curve. However, I’ve noticed the pants really stretch as you sit in them so they need to spend a refresh cycle on low heat in the dryer after almost every wear.

Also check out the JCrew Petal skirt in blush for only $60.

Perfect Skirts

The bermudas are headed to the back of the closet and the capris look too summery…what’s a girl to do? Skirts! Flats, heels, booties and boots all look great with skirts and in the warmer fall weather, you don’t need thick tights to stay warm.

BUT, the eStyle Chat shoppers want to warn that finding the right fit in a skirt is no easy task. Ann Taylor has a great line of skirts and the thicker, lined material used on most of Ann’s clothes make their skirts a better bet for a business look.

For All Shapes

Of their fall skirts right now, the Sweeping Wool Tweed skirt will be the most flattering to different body shapes. Hitting above the knee will also make your legs look longer! It’s 100% wool so don’t forget to dry clean this guy.

Boy Shape

The pencil with the leather zippers adds curves and defines  your hips.

Larger hips or waist

The wonderfully forgiving but fun Flouce Back skirt is slightly shorter and has a fun back that creates an A-line and gives more room around the hips. When you click here to find it, be sure to look at the rear view!

See something you want to pair with the skirt? Link in the comments and we’ll tell you what we think!
